I am very excited to announce a new conference here in Iowa for world language teachers! The CI: Comprehensible Iowa Conference will be held at Nevada High School in Nevada, Iowa on Saturday, June 18th this summer from 8:00am-5:00pm. This conference was created in response to a growing, local interest in comprehensible input, a sense of responsibility to help those who need training in the method, and a desire to collaborate with other practicing CI teachers. Our theme for the inaugural conference is Growing a Comprehensible Classroom and we will feature two keynote speakers: Carol Gaab will lead us in the morning with a virtual keynote, and Grant Boulanger will provide a live keynote around lunchtime. The conference was created to help both beginning and experienced CI teachers, and as such will offer a two different session types.
If you are a experienced with CI, I would like to encourage you to present at the conference! Suggestions of presentation topics are provided on the presentation proposal form, as is more information on what kinds of technology are provided in each room. Presentation proposals are due Friday, March 18th and presenters will be notified on Friday, April 1st if their proposal(s) have been accepted or not.
Registration will open Friday, February 18th and can be found here. Registration will be limited to the first 75 registrants; however, my hope is that this will increase due to popularity in the future.
Information on travel, lodging, and nearby restaurants can be found here. There is also a FAQs section. Don’t see your question on this page? Ask me so I can add it! Chances are someone else has it, too.
Would you like to share information about this conference? We’re using #CIIA16 on Twitter and bit.do/CIIA (the capital letters are important!) so that you don’t have to write out the entire web address. Feel free to use our conference banner above or to use our official logo below.
